ROGER LANE YUHASZ

MEADOWVIEW, Va. — The Reverend Roger Lane Yuhasz, 63, of Meadowview, Va., passed away in his home on Friday, December 3, 2010.

Born on December 31, 1946, Mr. Yuhasz grew up in Gary, W.Va., the son of Zola Mae Johnson Yuhasz and John L. Yuhasz (deceased). He was the oldest of five boys, brothers Edward, Robert, Jackie (deceased) and William. After attending Emmanuel College and Marshall College, Roger moved to Meadowview to start a thirty year career at the Washington County Department of Social Services and to become pastor of Meadowview Pentecostal Holiness Church. There, at the bottom of the hill, he met and married Norma Jean Humphreys. They were married September 13, 1969 and had two children, George Louis Yuhasz of Atlanta, Ga. and Sarah Elizabeth Yuhasz of Abingdon, Va. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Jean on October 7, 2003.

Mr. Yuhasz remained an active member of his church after retiring from the ministry. He taught the adult Sunday School class for many years and was a leader in the church. Mr. Yuhasz was very active in youth sports during the 80's and 90's serving as a coach and umpire in local basketball, football and his first love baseball around the Glade Spring area organizations. He was also active in the community with the Ruritan Club, serving in various positions and participating in many service projects. He was part of the maintenance committee of the Meadowview First Organization.

Mr. Yuhasz is survived by his children, George and Sarah; his only granddaughter, Marilyn Jean Yuhasz age 6; his mother, Zola Mae of Dublin, Va.; his brothers, Eddie and Bob of Dublin, Va. and Bill in Mooresville, N.C. He is also survived and will be cherished by the many brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and former co-workers whose lives he has been a part of.

Funeral services for Mr. Yuhasz will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Tommy Wilson and Pastor Dickie Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Glade Spring. Pallbearers will be Steve Parsons, Greg Humphreys, John Humphreys, Philip Humphreys, Kyle Cullop, Rick Humphreys, David White, Matthew White and Dickie Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Yuhasz, Eddie Yuhasz, William Yuhasz and members of the Meadowview Ruritan Club.

The family will be receiving friends Monday, December 6, 2010 at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.
