BEAN STATION, Tenn. — Robert F. Day, Sr., age 86, of 285
Springwood Drive, Bean Station, Tenn. and formerly of Skygusty and Oak
Hill, Fla., passed away on Friday, November 13, 2009 at his residence.
Born on November 16, 1922 in Eccles, W.Va., he was a son of the late Frank
Day and Susie Mitchem Day Spence.
He had been a resident of Bean Station for three years and attended the
Church of God at Bean Station. He was a member of the Church of Jesus
Christ in Skygusty. He was a coal miner and retired as a foreman for U.S.
Steel in Gary with 32 years of service. He was an avid golfer, outdoorsman
and enjoyed reading his Bible every day.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and
four sisters. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Cledia Freeman Day
of the home; two sons, Ernest Day and wife Brenda of Bean Station, Tenn.,
Robert F. Day Jr. and wife Josephine of Skygusty; six grandchildren,
Robert J. Day Sr. of Edgewater, Fla., Daniel D. Day of Cleveland, N.C.,
Denise L. Day of Skygusty, W.Va., Pamela Simpson of Morresburg, Tenn.,
Beverly Mason of Bean Station, Tenn., Audrey Cannady of Westmoreland,
Tenn.; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Pittman of Glen
White, W.Va., Ocie Gross of Richmond, Va., Ruth Gall of Sun City, Ariz.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday,
November 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel
in Bluewell with the Rev. Roney Marrs officiating. Burial will follow at
Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
