Fred Jackson Jr., known to his family as "Jackie," of Roanoke, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012. Born in Welch, W.Va., he was the son of the late Fred and Gladys Jackson.

 Fred graduated from Gary High School in West Virginia, and served four years in the United States Air Force as an X-ray technician. Over the years he worked at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Rocky Mount Hospital, and retired from the Veterans Hospital in Salem.

Fred was a talented pianist and organist, and an outgoing, open-hearted person who will be greatly missed.

 He is survived by his sister, Irma Jackson, of Orlando, Fla.; his brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Bonnie Jackson, of Roanoke; his brother, Roger Jackson, of Roanoke; and his nieces and nephews, Michelle, Travis, Emily, Tanner, Madison, and Gavin.

Fred's friends are invited to join the family for a memorial service at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations, 4922 Valley View Blvd., Roanoke VA 24012.
