BECKLEY — Jelica "Helen" Compton, passed away on Tuesday morning, July 3, 2012
at The Villages at Greystone, her home for the past year. Born on Dec. 14, 1924,
she was the daughter of the late Bogich and Billy Jane Charapich. She attended
school in Gary, W.Va., and received her education degree from Concord College in
1944. She taught at Gary High School for many years and retired as Reading
Specialist in Dec. 1979. In May of 1948, she married Travis Compton of Welch. He
preceded her in death in Nov. 1992.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Lyn Castrodale (Danny) of Ghent and
Nancy Jane Hipp (Raymond) of Barrington Hills, Ill. She is also survived by her
granddaughters who were the light of her life, Jelisa Ann Castrodale of
Winston-Salem, N.C.; Cari Lyn Stover (Dr. Matthew Stover) of Sagamore Hills,
Ohio; Erin Nicole Hipp of San Francisco, Calif.; and Kelly Ann Hipp of Denver,
Colo; and she has several nieces and nephews.
She so loved her caregivers of the past year, Carol Aurednik, Phyllis Summers,
Mary Moore and Charlene Hale. They brought so much joy into her life. She loved
Greystone, the staff and her fellow residents.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, July 7, 2012 in the Calfee Funeral
Home Chapel with Pastor Jack Barber officiating. She will be laid to rest next
to her husband at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton following the funeral.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the
funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Danny Castrodale, Robert Castrodale, Raymond Hipp, Matthew
Stover, Tim Bowman and T. Richard Cooper.
Arrangements will be handled by Calfee Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern
WV, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802.
