WELCH — William Edward “Ox” Warren, 61, of Welch, formerly of Gary, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2011 in Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton. Born March 4, 1950 in Welch he was the son of the late Jesse Lee Warren and Sarah Katherine Spriggs. He was a 1968 graduate of Gary High School and attended WVU. He was a retired coal miner having worked as a fire boss for US Steel. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Don Warren; and a sister, Betty Myers.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, William L. Warren and wife, April of Bluefield; a daughter, Melanie Ann Warren of Inez, Ky.; two grandchildren, Haley and Christopher Julian of Inez; a step-grandson, Elijah Ratcliff of Bluefield; and a special friend and mother of his children, Violet Lester of Welch.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Douglas Mortuary Chapel in Welch with the Reverend Omar Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 6-8 p.m. Friends will serve as pallbearers.
