WILCOE —  Samuel Mitchell Jr., age 77, of Wilcoe, W.Va., passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born March 15, 1934 in Wilcoe, he was the son of the late Samuel and Martha Stevenson Mitchell.  He attended Gary High School and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked for U.S. Steel and Gary Enterprises. He liked to listen to music and work in his work shop. He was a former coal miner and a member of the local U.M.W.A. He was preceded in death by, in addition to his parents, brothers, Louis, Charlie, Mack, Gordon and Joe.  

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Sexton Mitchell of Wilcoe; five sons, Kenneth of Salisbury, N.C., Gary and wife Lisa of Hickory, N.C., Mack, Frank and wife Jackie, and Sammy, all of Wilcoe; one sister, Pauline Proffit and husband Bill of Princeton; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. from the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch with the Reverend Ron Felts officiating.  Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Princeton.   Friends may call Monday, Feb. 6, 2012  at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.  Pallbearers will be family and friends.
