— “I have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.” Mary
Ann Poff, age 82, of Route 5 Box 437 (Bluewell), Bluefield, passed away on
Friday, July 29, 2011 at a Bluefield Regional Medical Center. She was a loving
mother and wife. Born on July 29, 1929 in Wilcoe, she was the daughter of the
late Joe and Ruth Wiles Scott. Mary Ann was a 1947 graduate of Gary High
School. She later worked in the company store in Wilcoe, where she met the
love of her life, the late Harless “Hambone” Poff. The two were married and
moved to Bluewell. Mary Ann continued to serve the public by working at the
J.C. Penney Company in Bluefield until long-term illnesses forced her to
retire. She was a lifelong member of the Bluewell United Methodist Church and
the Loyalettes Sunday School Class. She also sang in the church choir and was
a prayer line member.
Survivors: Daughter, Linda Poff of Bluewell with whom she made her home;
sister-in-law, Helen Williams of Bluewell; nephews, David Williams and wife
Kathy of Beaufort, S.C., Phillip Williams and wife Paula of Duluth, Ga.;
niece, Sue Ellen Hatcher and husband Bill of Princeton; cousin, Karen Alley
and husband Al of Penn Laird, Va.; extra special caregivers, Liz Sexton of
Bluewell, Grace Conley of Montcalm; extraordinary loving dog, “Sammy.”
Cryptside services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the
Woodlawn Mausoleum in Bluewell with the Reverend Steve Rector and the Reverend
D. Homer Stuart officiating. Entombment will follow. Friends may call on
Monday morning from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in
Bluewell. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Bluewell
United Methodist Church, Rt. 4 Box 541, Bluefield, WV 24701. Online
