COLUMBUS, Ga. — Daniel Ray “Donnie” Chapman, age 68, of 3313 W. Britt Davis Road, Apt 3, and formerly of Anawalt, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in Georgia. Born on July 11, 1943 in Anawalt, he was a son of Flossie Thompson Chapman of Anawalt the late Kelly Stuart Chapman.
He
had been a resident of Georgia for 30 years and was a graduate of Gary High
School. He was a retired veteran of the US Army with 21 1/2 years of service
and had served in Vietnam. He was the recipient of several medals including:
National Defense Service Medal, Service Medal with one silver service star and
four bronze service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army of
Occupation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze star medal with
two bronze bronze oak leaf clusters and V device, Republic of Vietnam
Gallantry Cross unit citation badge with palm, seven overseas service bars,
Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions medal with citation bade, Republic of
Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal, Second Class Meritorious Unit Commendation,
Humanitarian Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Meritorious
Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbons, NCO Professional
Development Ribbon.
Survivors include his mother, Flossie Thompson Chapman of Anawalt; son, Daniel
Ray Chapman II of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Michele Chapman of Dallas,
Texas, Ashley Chapman of Columbus, Ga.; five brothers, Claude “Sop” Chapman of
Anawalt, Bobby Lee Chapman and Maxine of Lynchburg, Va., Thurman Chapman and
Linda of Anawalt, Jimmy Ward Chapman Sr. and Paulette of Rumsburg, Va., Bill
Chapman and Judy and Thorpe, W.Va., Michael Chapman of Anawalt; one sister,
Shelby Morehead and Jerry of Anawalt; special friends, Todd and Samantha
Blackburn of Columbus, Ga. and their son Malachi, Deborah Jean of Columbus,
Ga.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at
the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Chapel in Bluewell with the Reverend
Donnie Farmer officiating. Friends may call on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the
