BLUEFIELD, Va. — Doris Jean O'Brien Martin,
age 75, of Sedgewood Townhouses, Bluefield, Va., went to be with her Heavenly
Father on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at a Bluefield hospital.
Born on April 23, 1935 at Little Creek near Anawalt, she was a daughter of the
late Lacy Patrick and Cleo Webb O'Brien. She had been a resident of Bluefield,
Va. for six years and was formerly of Gary. She was retired from the McDowell
County Board of Education and was a member of the First United Methodist
Church, 200 South College Avenue in Bluefield VA. She was a graduate of Gary
High School in 1953 and also attended both Concord College and Bluefield State
College. She was also a member of the Bluefield, W.Va. Lioness Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James
Conley Martin; and a son, Patrick Kyle Martin.
Survivors include: Daughter, Rhonda Vance and husband Kenneth “Mickey” of
Bluefield, Va.; one granddaughter, Meagan Michelle Vance of Bluefield, Va.;
two brothers, Lacy Patrick O'Brien, II and wife Judy of Glade Springs, John
Thomas O'Brien and wife Beverly of Gary; one sister, Carol Ball and husband
Buddy of Claytor Lake, Va.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at
the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Reverend Raymond Amos
officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, Va.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Shane O'Brien, Rick Perfin, Lacy Patrick O'Brien,
III, Seth O'Brien, Robert Neal, Kevin French, and J.L. Cliffton.
Friends may call on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
