JOHN JOSEPH KROLL, JR

Mr. John Joseph Kroll, Jr. (65) of Newnan, GA, departed peacefully from his earthly life on January 20, 2010, after his second round of cancer.  John is survived by his wife of 44 year, Lois Ann (Copley) Kroll, and  three children, Melissa (Kroll) Gill, Captain John Joseph Kroll, III, wife Ginger (Logan) Kroll, and Carissa Gill, husband Joseph Gill and four grandchildren, Alison Gill, John David Gill, Jacob Gill, and Andrew Lee and one brother, Martin Kroll.  His was the son of the late John Joseph Kroll and Mary (Carter) Kroll.

He was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, and grew up in Gary, West Virginia, and graduated from Gary High School and Concord College.  He became a captain in the US Army and served one tour of duty in Vietnam.  He retired from the Indiana Army National Guard and from the US Government where he worked at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, IN.  He and Lois lived in Greenwood, IN. for 36 years before relocating to Newnan, GA, in 2006.  

John was active in the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society.  He was an usher at Our Lady of Greenwood Catholic Church in Greenwood, IN, and at St. George Catholic Church in Newnan, GA.  John was a Lector at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Newnan, GA.  He delivered bread regularly to the shelters. 

John Kroll, Jr. loved music, gardening and country dancing.   He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.  John never met a stranger.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society (http://www.svdpusa.org) or the American Cancer Society (http://www.cancer.org).   The family will be receiving guests at 9 AM at St. Mary Magdalene in Newnan, GA, with the recitation of the rosary at 10 AM and a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 22, 2010.
