RUTLEDGE, Tenn. — Howard Ray Overbaugh, age 64, of Rutledge, Tenn., formerly of
Bland, Va., died on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Tanner Medical Center in Villa
Rica, Ga. Born on Jan. 25, 1948 in Anawalt, W.Va., he was the son of the late
Clowney and Irene Blevins Overbaugh. He was a retired supervisor for the State
Department of Transportation and was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served
in the U.S. Navy. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Faye
Sims Overbaugh and a grandchild, Jordan Elizabeth Overbaugh.
Survivors include son, Stanley Overbaugh and wife, Elizabeth, of Douglasville,
Ga.; daughters, Julie Overbaugh and Debra Sparks of Bland Va.; sisters, Amanda
Heffinger of Leckie, W.Va., Linda Shupe of Anawalt, W.Va., Patricia Beverly of
Premier, W.Va., Karen Miller of Anawalt, W.Va.; grandchildren, Jeremy Roberts of
Bland, Va., Ashley and Heidi Overbaugh of Wytheville, Va., Cara and Tiffany
Miller of Douglasville, Ga., Alex Sessions of Douglasville, Ga.; and
great-grandchild, Aiden Connor Roberts of Bland, Va.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the
Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Rev. Donnie Farmer officiating.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where the Navy Honor
Guard and the Mercer County Veterans Council will conduct Military Graveside
Honors. His family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. Friends may call
on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
